The basic format for the Stepbystep business plan was originally created in 2000 in a hard copy version. At the time there was a lack of planning tools suitable for UK based SMEs, so one of the partners, who specialised in business planning, designed a format in order to deliver this service more effectively. His clients found going through the process was as useful as having the finished plan itself. Furthermore, many declared that having completed the plan they knew a lot more about their business and what their goals were than before they started on the process.
Based on this success, the presentation of the plan was improved and made available as software, with interactive functions, to make it easy for business owners and managers to write and produce the plans themselves.
Now, with the requirement for more flexibility to work on the plan whilst at the office, at home or elsewhere, the plan has recently been further developed into an on-line version. No downloads are needed and it can be accessed at any time and anywhere with an Internet connection. The other advantage is that the plan can be shared remotely with a business colleague or adviser at the same time – to discuss or amend the content.
Business advisers have found Stepbystep particularly useful to have a ready made planning tool to present to clients as part of their portfolio of services and being available in multiple versions, users can create more than one plan from the same access point.
